How Deep It Goes

Iceberg charts, for the thing you love

How Deep It GoesFrom what everyone has heard of to what only you know

Name a hobby, food, craft or pastime and list what you know about it. Guess how deep each item sits and the page draws your iceberg for free; one run places every item, captions each depth and gives your diver rank.

Try a sample:

1 The thing and what you know free

Then 3 to 12 things you know about it - a term, a habit, a story of your own. Your depth guess is optional.

2 The iceberg free

3 Chart it properly

One run places every item by how widely known it is, writes a caption for each depth, asks a question for any empty band and notes where it disagrees with your guesses. It never fact-checks your items.

How the depths work

Tip: people who don't follow it have heard of it. Waterline: anyone who has tried it once or twice knows it. Shallows: regular followers know it. Deep: only long-time devoted followers know it. Abyss: only you, your circle or a tiny few would know it. Anything written about yourself (I, my, we, our) always sinks to the Abyss.

Each placed item scores Tip 1 to Abyss 5. With fewer than 3 placed items the chart is too murky; otherwise the average decides the rank: 4 or more Abyss dweller, 3 or more Free diver, 2 or more Snorkeller, else Tip spotter. The same rule runs on your guesses (free) and on the run's placements; the page re-adds the run's numbers itself.

The tiers are a playful judgement of how widely known something is, not a fact check. Keep other people's names, phone numbers and addresses out of your items.
